چکیده

Background Ebstein’s anomaly (EA) is a rare but clinically important congenital heart disease with potential affection of right ventricular(RV), right atrial (RA), left ventricular (LV) and left atrial (LA) function that may play a role in heart failure development. Thus, we sought to assess quantitative atrial and ventricular function in EA with CMR feature tracking, and to correlate changes in biatrial and biventricular performance with the severity of disease and clinical parameters of heart failure.

The Correlation between Left and Right Ventricular Ejection Fractions in Patients with Ischemic Heart Disease, Documented by Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Introduction: The correlation between right and left ventricular ejection fractions (RVEF and LVEF, respectively) has been studied in only a small number of patients with a marked decrease in RVEF and LVEF. The aim of the present study was to compare LVEF and RVEF in patients with ischemic heart disease. RVEF and LVEF were measured by Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) imaging. Materials a...

Ebstein's Anomaly, Left Ventricular Noncompaction, and Sudden Cardiac Death

Ebstein's anomaly is a congenital disorder characterized by apical displacement of the septal leaflet of the tricuspid valve. Ebstein's anomaly may be seen in association with other cardiac conditions, including patent foramen ovale, atrial septal defect, and left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC). LVNC is characterized by increased trabeculation within the left ventricular apex. Echocardiograph...

Left ventricular synchrony, torsion, and recoil mechanics in Ebstein’s anomaly: insights from cardiovascular magnetic resonance

BACKGROUND Disease progression and heart failure development in Ebstein's Anomaly (EA) of the tricuspid valve is characterized by both right and left ventricular (LV) deterioration. The mechanisms underlying LV dysfunction and their role in heart failure development are incompletely understood. We hypothesized that LV dyssynchrony and impaired torsion and recoil mechanics induced by paradoxical...

Bilateral Ebstein-like anomaly with atrial septal defect.

We report an unusual congenital cardiac anomaly consisting of a downward displacement of all leaflets of both atrio-ventricular valves. In addition to these changes, an atrial septal defect of the secundum type was noted. In light of the extreme rarity of this interesting anomaly complex, we reviewed the literature and compare the morphologic features of the present case with classic Ebstein's ...

Cardiac MRI underlines the role of BNP and hematologic parameters as heart failure markers in patients with Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve

Background Ebstein’s anomaly of the tricuspid valve involves a congenitally displaced and dysplastic tricuspid valve (TV). The displacement of the TV towards the apex results in an enlarged right atrium (RA) with an atrialzied portion of the right ventricle (aRV) and an enlarged functional right ventricle (fRV). Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a heart failure marker. Its role in Ebstein’s an...
